New SharpEye™ Coastal Surveillance/VTS Radar from Kelvin Hughes
- 20 Sep 2007
To meet the demands of today’s security environment Kelvin Hughes has introduced a radar that provides both superb performance in clutter for navigation safety and the detection of small craft which may pose a security threat.
Shown for the first time at this years DSEi exhibition held at ExCeL in London the new SharpEye™ Coastal Surveillance and VTS radar has been developed as the world’s first new technology Radar aimed at the surveillance market.
The new system has safety applications in VTS and port traffic control and more importantly, security applications in the detection of illegal activities such as smuggling and illegal immigration as well as assisting in the prevention of terrorist activities and piracy.
The SharpEye™ Coastal Surveillance/VTS radar features greatly improved target detection due to the use of Pulse-Doppler for rain and sea clutter rejection and mixed clutter suppression using coherent Moving Target Detection (MTD) processing. It is available as either an X-Band, S-Band or dual system with antenna speeds up to 46 rpm.
The system has been design for low maintenance remote operation with no ‘lifed’ items and has an MTBF of over 50,000 hours. It incorporates remote radar control and extensive Built in Test (BIT) facilities.
The SharpEye™ Coastal Surveillance/VTS Radar offers a cost effective leading edge performance solution for today’s security environment.
