Kelvin Hughes ECDIS high on the agenda at Asia Pacific Maritime
- 11 Apr 2012
High levels of interest in Kelvin Hughes ECDIS and ChartCo services were seen at this year’s Asia Pacific Maritime event as companies plan their ECDIS strategies.
With mandatory carriage starting soon, ECDIS was naturally high on the agenda on Kelvin Hughes’ stand at the recent three-day Asia Pacific Maritime exhibition and conference in Singapore, says Lawrence Lai, Area Sales Manager, Kelvin Hughes Singapore Pte Ltd.
“There was a lot of interest in ECDIS4, Kelvin Hughes’ fourth generation product and the latest member of the MantaDigital™ multifunction workstation family, allowing one display to function as an ECDIS, a radar or a conning display,” he highlights.
“Asia Pacific Maritime is the one-stop market for the region’s maritime community, showcasing the latest developments in marine engineering and technology. As one of Asia’s best established and proven maritime exhibitions, it is strongly supported by the international maritime community. Exhibiting at APM allows us to reach out to all our existing and potential customers in the Asia region.”
Mr Lai says that as shipowners and operators begin to prepare their ECDIS implementation strategies, there is increasing interest in associated services designed to relieve them of concerns about chart management and deliver safe and secure electronic navigation.
“Two examples of these associated services are Passage Manager and ChartCo Select. Chartco Select enables a vessel to manage all its services and download electronic navigational chart (ENC) updates either by direct internet IP connection to the Chartco server or, alternatively, as email attachments via a vessel’s normal communications system.
“PassageManager™ allows the navigator to quickly plot a route, identifying the most appropriate products needed to conduct the voyage safely and in a fully-compliant manner. New products can be ordered automatically, ensuring that the most cost-effective mix of paper and electronic charts is available. Services such as port, tidal and piracy data can be added to the display as additional data layers."
Mr Lai says these are just two examples of the comprehensive services available from Kelvin Hughes and ChartCo. “When you take advantage of our market leading systems and services, you can be sure that all necessary items are monitored on your behalf, allowing you and your bridge teams to focus on the business of running your ships safely and efficiently.”
