Kelvin Hughes will be co-exhibiting, together with Lammers Schiffselektronik GmbH, the company’s German agent, at SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair in Hamburg.

More than 2100 exhibitors have already registered for the event which is taking place from the 6th to 9th September and is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors from some 100 countries.

Covering all segments of the maritime value chain, SMM represents an ideal opportunity for Kelvin Hughes to promote the launch of its new range of radar systems for commercial shipping based on the company’s innovative, solid-state SharpEye™ technology.

Kelvin Hughes has been supplying IMO type-approved radar to merchant ships, fishing boats and workboats since the 1940s, delivering reliability and low cost of ownership together with highly superior detection capability. SharpEye™ has taken situational awareness to a new level with its ability to detect more targets, at an earlier stage, than conventional, magnetron-based radar systems even in the most adverse weather conditions.

Among the new products being exhibited will be the latest SharpEye™ S-Band radar with a digital LAN interface which meets all the challenges of safety, navigation and collision avoidance at sea, through a clever combination of radar techniques including pulse compression, designed to provide the best performance in all conditions. That performance is further enhanced by the transceiver being positioned upmast, thereby minimising signal loss in the waveguide as well as simplifying installation.

Together with the S-Band radar, Kelvin Hughes will also be demonstrating its latest integrated radar display which incorporates all the market-leading software functionality of the company’s MantaDigital™ radar series whilst adding a number of new features, including dual PPI (Plan Position Indicator), collision warning, spy scope and Enhanced Target Detection (ETD) mode.
