Engineering

Systems Engineer

A Systems Engineer is required within the Surveillance Systems business to develop and deliver Company and Customer Funded systems projects based upon Kelvin Hughes’ state of the art radar technology. Activities will include all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle from System Concept through to Delivery and Acceptance, including Bid Support, System Design and System Integration.

Applicants are required to be flexible in their approach to work, as every project and support issue presents different challenges.  Applicants mut also possess an appitude for problem solving and have an eye of detail.

Job Functions:

Essential:

Experience of systems design, integration & test. • An understanding of Systems and Product lifecycles from concept through to delivery. • An understanding of a range of Engineering disciplines (Software, Mechanical, and Electrical). • Good inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate to all levels within the organisation and externally. • The flexibility to apply skills and knowledge across a number of different projects and products across the organisation. • Computer literate with a good standard of written English, capable of compiling accurate, detailed and well-presented technical proposals, specifications and reports. • A willingness to travel. (NB whilst this role is based at our Enfield premises, a certain amount of business travel will be required depending upon project requirements

Desirable (Not Essential):

An understanding of Radar Systems is desirable, although not essential if other complementary skills demonstrate a capacity to understand new technologies quickly and effectively. • Experience of the whole product lifecycle (concept generation, concept demonstration, development, production and in-service support). • Experience of working with and developing systems using communications protocols. (e.g. RS485, RS232, TCP-IP, Canbus etc.) • Experience of working on product development for Naval Platforms. • Experience of working on or with Navigation equipment. • The ability to lead multi-skilled engineering teams. • The ability to deliver engineering packages of work to time, cost and quality. • Member of a Professional Engineering Institution (e.g. IMechE, IET, INCOSE). • UK Security clearance. • UK Driving License.

Qualifications:

Ideally qualified to Degree level in Engineering/Mathematics/Physics although relevant, equivalent experience is acceptable.

Personal Characteristics:

All Systems Engineering personnel are expected to show motivation and initiative in planning their own activities so as to achieve timely and effective results with little supervision. Contracts Manager

This role will require a broad range of interaction, with both internal and external stakeholders, and will encompass the provision of guidance, assistance, technical (contractual & regulatory) and commercial inputs and negotiation support, in respect to all aspects of the operations of the Kelvin Hughes Group, across all locations. Reporting into the Head of Commercial, the Contracts Manager will be responsible for providing strong working commercial knowledge and support, acumen and advisory service across all departments within the business, in particular to the Sales and Programme functions. The role will ideally suit someone who is an experienced contract or commercial manager within the defence industry, and who is looking to take the next step in their career within the Contract and Commercial Management profession. The role of the Commercial function is to support the achievement of the bids financial/strategic objectives, to ensure compliance with ethical and contractual undertakings and to ensure the commercial integrity of commitments being made on behalf of the company. The ideal candidate will need to be flexible enough to visit other sites including customers both in the UK and international if required. .

Security Solutions

Senior Systems Engineer (Security Solutions)

Senior Systems Engineer is required within the Security Solutions Division to ensure that consistent and compliant System Solutions are delivered to customers, meeting the needs of the Security business. You will need extensive knowledge of product development, engineering change management, systems engineering and quality systems and their practical application. Knowledge of radar (or communications) system design and performance analysis. Proven experience of integration and demonstration of equipment and subsequent acceptance by customer / end users. Proven experience of sensor integration into varied platforms. Proven technical skills, relating to effective systems engineering, practical application of quality assurance and configuration control, as well as appropriate document generation. Sound commercial/business awareness, inter-personal skills. Computer literacy, including CAD applications. Knowledge of electro optical camera solutions

Job Functions:

Definition and delivery of Systems solutions for the Security business.

Technical support to Sales and Marketing including generating information to support bids, technical presentations to customers, generation of product specifications and attendance at customer meetings.

Provide technical design solutions to support proposed system changes and bids ensuring appropriate compliance with customer, business and legislative requirements including safety.

Adopt a consistent approach to systems engineering activities throughout the design life cycle.

Take an active involvement in new product design, providing system level input from product definition through to release into production.

Maintain and support legacy/delivered systems including visits to customer sites and installations where necessary.

Monitor and, where possible, introduce up to date technology into Kelvin Hughes system designs.

Travel within the UK and overseas is required, and is considered a frequent feature of this role. This could be required at short notice. It may also involve deployments of up to 6 weeks at a time.

Promote the work of Kelvin Hughes in the field of Systems Engineering through attendance at conferences and seminars and where appropriate, through the presentation and publication of technical papers • Any other tasks associated with this role.

Key Relationships:

Technical liaison within and outside Kelvin Hughes with customers, suppliers and collaborators on systems related matters.

Support the Security Systems Design Authority in the definition and implementation of Systems Engineering processes and practices across the department

Act as a role model for more junior staff

Qualifications: 

Degree level qualification in Engineering / Mathematics / Science subject (or equivalent relevant experience)
