What is SharpEye™?

SharpEye™ is a revolutionary new radar technology, it provides unbeatable performance and reliability using a completely solid-state transmitting device rather than the conventional magnetron.

What techniques are in SharpEye™?

SharpEye™ uses pulse compression, doppler detection and pulse coding to provide the ultimate level of target detection and reliability.

Does SharpEye™ meet the 2008 performance standards?

Yes - SharpEye™ exceeds the detection requirements of the new IMO performance standard for shipborne radar. Using MantaDigital™ Displays in conjunction with SharpEye™ exceeds the overall performance standard.

Do I need to replace my whole system?

No - If you have an existing Kelvin hughes System you will be able to retrofit the upmast transceiver. Tthe new transceiver will mount on your existing S-Band mountings and interface to your existing displays.

Is the output power sufficient?

Yes - SharpEye™ transmits long pulses of lower peak power. The total energy that the target receives equals that of a magnetron based system. Detection performance far exceeds that of conventional systems due to the additional information that is extracted from the reflected energy.

Is the technology new and high risk

No - The basic methodology that is used in SharpEye™ has been used for a number of years in military and air traffic systems. Advances in technology have now made this accessible to the marine market at an affordable cost.

Is the SharpEye™ antenna larger than a conventional antenna?

No - for both X and S band the antenna size is identical to that required by a conventional transceiver.

Due to the coherency of the radar transmission, is SharpEye™ more susceptible to interference?

No - the use of coherency to resolve targets make SharpEye™ less prone to interference from other radars and also less likely to interfere with other radars.
